Book Clubs

Are you interested in joining a book club? We can help!

Join one of our book clubs!

The library has six book clubs:

Selected members lead the Club and provide some background information about the book. Members are then encouraged to share their opinions and a lively discussion ensues over coffee.

Everyone is welcome to attend. No sign up or registration is necessary. For more information, call Donna Lach, Programming Librarian, at 989-5386. The sessions are free.

Books in a Bag

Book discussion kits were developed just for book clubs.  owl bag

To know which books are available in Books in a Bag, search the Library catalogue for Book Clubs Discussion Groups Materials.

You will receive in each bag :

  • 10 copies  of a “discussable” book. (Available titles)
  • A binder with an author profile, several published reviews and other related information.
  • It may also contain discussion questions.

How it works :

Ask for Books in a Bag at the Reference Desk (or 514-989-5355 or
refdesk @ westmount.org.)

  • Contents of the Bag are listed in the binder.
  • No more than one Books in a Bag kit may be checked out to an individual at one time.
  • The kits may be checked out for six weeks. You can reserve the Bags ahead of time (Reference Desk, 514-989-5355 or refdesk @ westmount.org).
  • No renewals are possible.
  • The person who checks out the kit is responsible for the return of the bag and its contents.  (Be sure that your book club members know to return their books to the person who checked out the book bag and not to the Library).  Use the sign out sheet in the binder to keep track of who has which copy of the book.
  • Overdue Books in a Bag kits will be fined $2.00 a day.
  • The replacement cost of the entire kit is $200.00.
  • The replacement cost of individual parts of the kit will depend on the cost of each particular item.
  • Books in a Bag must be returned to the Reference Desk.
  • Please do not put kits in the book drops.
