TIPS FOR PARENTS

Tip #1
Take the trip together. Take the time to see what your kids are doing online and what their interests are.

Tip #2
Explore great sites available for kids. Use the links on the Westmount Library Kid's Page or the suggestions from our Internet books. The librarian will be happy to help!

Tip #3
Teach kids never to give out their personal information to people they meet online especially in public places like chat rooms and bulletin boards.

Tip #4
Instruct your child never to plan a face-to-face meeting alone with online acquaintances.

Tip #5
Tell your child not to respond when they receive offensive or dangerous email, chat, or other communications.

Tip #6
Establish clear ground rules for Internet use for your kids. Be aware that the Westmount Public Library doesn't use parental control tools or filters.

Tip #7
Consider making a Pledge for Online Safety with your child (form available at the Westmount Public Library).
