The members are volunteers who offer to contribute their time, skills, experience and energy to the Library. Their purpose is to stimulate interest in the Library's resources and facilities and to raise funds to improve the Library's collections and services. They may give as little or as much time as they want to the Friends organization. They may sit on the Board, or volunteer for one of the activities or their support may be their membership fees alone.
Through membership fees and other fundraising events the Friends have provided over $100 000 to the Library. The support includes:
Annual funding for the entire FastReads collection
Startup collection of 100 DVDs
TumbleBooks subscription, an online collection of interactive animated talking storybooks for kids
New copies and new translations of the classics
New selections for the art, music, and biography sections
Books in a Bag service, 10 copies of bookclub selections, author information and reviews for bookclubs
Author visits
Words and music concerts
Material for the Library’s storyteller's cape, the Cloak of Imagining
